A 27-year-old man, known as Mfom John, is being investigated by the Lagos State Police Command after he allegedly stab his twin brother, Israel John, to death on Olorunkemi Street in the Somolu area of the state.
Mfom was reported to have stabbed the victim more than 70 times in different parts of his body on Monday.
The Akwa Ibom State indigene reportedly stabbed his brother in the neck, head, armpit and stomach till he died, after which he fled to Ogunbadejo, a neighbouring street, to report to an uncle that his brother had sustained serious injuries during a fight.
The elder brother to the deceased, Christopher, during interrogation said,.
“I was roasting groundnut in the kitchen when Mfom killed our brother. I never knew what happened until I went into the room and saw Israel in the pool of his blood.”
But residents said Christopher might know more about the death because the suspect had told him he would ensure his brother did not go to work that morning.
A relative, who did not identify herself, said after killing his brother, the suspect went to his uncle’s house, where she also stays, to report the incident.

“We asked him what happened, he just said there was a fight in the house and his brother had been injured. As we approached the house, we saw two police vans. The policemen brought out a body that was covered with wrapper.
“That was when Christopher told the police that it was Mfom who killed his brother. The police then arrested him,” she said, adding that Mfom was overbearing, while Israel was quiet and always at the receiving end of his brother’s cruelty.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, saying:
“The suspect stabbed the victim to death while sleeping at about 6.30am on Olorunkemi Street, Bariga.
“The case has been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, SDCI, Yaba.
“The corpse of the victim has been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital morgue,” the PPRO noted.
