The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) has urged politicians to imbibe internal democracy in the selection of candidate for the forthcoming local government council elections.

The Chairman of the commission, Dr. John Tor Tsuwa made this remark yesterday while visiting stakeholders to seek partnership towards free, fair and credible elections in the state.

The stakeholders visited yesterday include Benue Printing & Publishing Corporation (BPPC), Benue State University, Makurdi (BSU) and the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ).

Dr Tsuwa warned politicians that the era of announcing election results without conducting election was over, saying the commission would not involve itself in such exercise because of its integrity.

Responding, the General Manager of BPPC, Mr. Ben Ebe assured the chairman of the organization’s readiness to carry out its traditional role of informing, educating and sensitizing the people of the state about the activities of the commission.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe, promised to mobilize the staff and students as well as give the chairman all the necessary support for him to succeed in his given responsibility.

The Chairman of NUJ, Benue State Council, Comrade Kris Atsaka, expressed the determination of journalist in the state to partner with the commission to strengthen greater coverage of its activities.

The polls are scheduled to hold sometime between the months of July-September 2016.
